CHAPTER [3] PROTEINS

Proteins

(4/13/2016)

Amino Acid Composition of Proteins:

It is amazing that all the different types of proteins are initially synthesized as polymers of only 20 amino acids, known as the common amino acids, the common amino acids are defined as those amino acids for which a specific codon exists in the DNA genetic code, there are 20 amino acids for which DNA codon are known, the process of the reading of the DNA code, resulting in the polymerization of amino acids of a specific sequence into the proteins based on the DNA code, In this chapter we shall discus only the protein of this genetically controlled synthetic process,

For example

Tryptophan = C11H12N2O2 = 207 m/g

Tryptophan = UGG, = mRNA Codons

(GUANINE)

  = a2 + b2 = c2

  = a2 = Tryptophan and b2 = Guanine = c2

  = a2 = 207 m/g and b2 = 151.13 g/mol = c2

  = a207 + b151.13 = c2

  = 42849 + 22840.2769 = c2

  = a + b = 65689.2769 = c2

  = a + b = 65689.2769 / 217.32 (3CH2OH = 95.25 + 5H2O = 92.5 + N2 + H = 216.5) = 302.26

  = a + b = 302.26 / 151.13 (G) = 2

  = a + b = 2 Guanine for mRNA Tryptophan,

mRNA Tryptophan Non-Polar = 2 Guanine

tRNA Tryptophan Non-Polar = 0 Guanine

(URACIL)

  = a2 + b2 = c2

  = a2 = Tryptophan and b2 = Uracil = c2

  = a2 = 207 m/g and b2 = 112.0868 g/mol = c2

  = a207 + b112.0868 = c2

  = 42849 + 12563.45073424 = c2

  = a + b = 55412.45073424 = c2

  = a + b = 55412.45073424 / 494.75 (5PO4 = 475 + 18.5 H2O + H1 = 494.75) = 112

  = a + b = 112 / 112 (U) = 1

  = a + b = 1 Uracil for mRNA Tryptophan,

mRNA Tryptophan Non-Polar = 1 Uracil

tRNA Tryptophan Non-Polar = 0 Uracil

Total Codons = G2 + U1 = 3

Tryptophan = UGG, = mRNA Codons

There are 20 amino acids for which mRNA codon are known, the process of the reading of the mRNA code, resulting in the polymerization of amino acids of a specific sequence into the proteins based on the mRNA code,

The genetically controlled synthetic process =

= (3CH2OH = 95.25 + 5H2O = 92.5 + N2 + H = 216.5)

= (5PO4 = 475 + 18.5 H2O + H1 = 494.75)

Main Functions of Tryptophan

Precursor to the key neurotransmitter, serotonin, which exerts a calming effect.

Effective sleep aid, due to conversion to serotonin, (3CH2OH = 95.25 + 5H2O = 92.5 + N2 + H = 216.5)

Reduces anxiety,

Effective in some forms of depression, (3CH2OH = 95.25 + 5H2O = 92.5 + N2 + H = 216.5)

Treatment for migraine headaches, (3CH2OH = 95.25 + 5H2O = 92.5 + N2 + H = 216.5)

Stimulates growth hormone, (3CH2OH = 95.25 + 5H2O = 92.5 + N2 + H = 216.5)

Along with Lysine, Carnitine, and Taurine is effective in lowering cholesterol levels.

Can be converted into niacin (Vitamin B3),

Lowers risk of arterial spasms,

The only plasma amino acid that is bound to protein, (3CH2OH = 95.25 + 5H2O = 92.5 + N2 + H = 216.5)

Tryptophan must compete with 5 other amino acids to pass through the blood-brain barrier and enter the brain. (3CH2OH = 95.25 + 5H2O = 92.5 + N2 + H = 216.5)

Those 5 are tyrosine, phenylalanine, leucine, isoleucine, and valine and are called Large Neutral Amino Acids (LNAA),

Requires pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P5P) a form of vitamin B6 to be converted into serotonin, P5P deficiency will lower serotonin levels, even if Tryptophan levels are normal, (5PO4 = 475 + 18.5 H2O + H1 = 494.75)
