In vitamin K deficiency, des-carboxylated proteins are formed that are functionally defective because they cannot bind calcium and phospholipid. These abnormal coagulation factors are called protein-induced by vitamin K absence (PIVKA). PIVKA-II is des-carboxylated prothrombin,
